After having an emergency C-Section with my first baby and feeling slightly “robbed” from experiencing a natural birth. I really hoped that the second time round I would be able to have a natural vaginal birth with zero medical intervention. Due to previously having a C-Section, I was told by health professionals that there could be a small chance that my scar tissue could rupture but I was more than capable of having a natural birth.
From this and my first experience, I did develop a bit of trauma and fear around giving birth naturally, so I took interest in holistic and natural birthing techniques as many women over ancient times have given birth without any form of medical intervention and I knew if I truly put my mind to it I could do it!
I started reading lots of holistic birthing books as well as hypnobirthing books and then a friend recommended Lindsey, who was running a hypnobirthing class for pregnant woman. Perfect!
So, when the big day finally arrived, and the contractions started! I used all my newly learnt techniques and put them into practice. I totally surrendered and relaxed my mind and body using my breathing techniques through every contraction.
My favourite breathing technique was the “Horsey Lips” & yes, I might have sounded like a mare labouring a foal whilst in labour! But who cares! Haha! The “Horsey Lips” breathing is a quick and easy breathing technique to help release that tension. As I breathed out, I loosely puffed my lips and allowed them to flap and vibrate as the air was exhaled. Just like a horse neighing. This breathing technique relaxes the jaw and throat which in return helps the cervix, pelvic floor and perineum relax and open ready for birth!
As I finally got into the final stages of my labour it felt truly magical! Like I was at one with the universe, like an out of body experience!! The most surreal feeling I have ever experienced!! After the final push & meeting my beautiful baby girl I had never felt so empowered and proud to be a woman!
